Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions from Collectors About the Art

General Information

What is fine art photography?
Fine art photography is a genre where the artist uses the camera as a tool to create a work of art, often conveying a specific vision or emotion. It goes beyond mere documentation and focuses on aesthetic expression and creativity.
What defines 'limited edition' in fine art photography?
Limited edition refers to a fixed number of prints available for each photograph, enhancing its uniqueness and value.
What is face-mounted acrylic?
Face-mounted acrylic is a method of setting an image under a layer of crystal clear acrylic resin. First, the image is printed on acid-free paper; all of Guinevere Joy’s acrylic pieces are printed on a metallic paper to give it an extra element of dimension. Next, the image is affixed to DIBOND with acid-free adhesive. Next, the acrylic is carefully applied to create a smooth, clear layer upon the photograph. The piece is then mounted with hardware which will make it ready to hang as soon as you receive it.
What kind of paper do you use?

We use acid-free, archival quality paper. The Acrylic Art uses a metallic paper which looks stunning under the acrylic resin.

Fine Art Prints have the option of a lustre paper or a metallic paper, both of the same quality.

What is Giclée?

Giclée prints (pronounced zhee-clay), is a printing process that uses pigment-based inks used for fine art printing. The word giclee comes from the french word, ‘to spray,’ referring to how the printer nozzles spray the ink. Not all inkjet printers produce giclée prints. It all boils down to these four elements: resolution, ink, paper, and printer type.

Large format Epson inkjet printers using tiny nozzles to ‘spray’ the ink, and a wide range of ink cartridges, can both match color and apply ink precisely. Furthermore, to be defined as a giclée print, the paper must be of archival (acid-free) quality. The type of ink used is also a pigment-based ink, which withstands the test of time much longer than other types of ink.

What is encaustic?
Encaustic art is the application of encaustic medium to a surface. Encaustic medium is made up of a specific ratio of natural white beeswax and damar resin. Damar resin comes from a tree, making the encaustic medium 100% natural. The encaustic medium lends itself well to soft, foggy, blurry, type images that do not have a lot of contrast. It is very different from the photographs that are presented as prints or with acrylic face mounting, which is perfect for highlighting definition and detail. Encaustic does the opposite, which is that is blurs and mutes fine detail.. As such, images that are inappropriate for production as ordinary prints have found new life as encaustic originals.
How do I care for my fine art photography prints?

To preserve the quality, avoid hanging in direct sunlight and consider framing with UV-protective glass. Acrylic pieces may be carefully wiped with a soft cloth to remove dust.

Can I commission a custom piece?

Yes, we offer the opportunity to commission bespoke pieces that resonate with your personal aesthetic.

What is the artistic process behind each piece?

Each piece is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, from the initial shot to the final print, ensuring a masterpiece of the highest quality.

Purchasing Art

How do I purchase art?

You can purchase prints directly through our website. Browse the Shop, select the desired piece, choose the size and frame (if desired), and add it to your cart. Follow the checkout process to complete your purchase.

Can I request a custom size or material?
Yes, we can accommodate custom requests. Please contact us with your specific requirements for a bespoke piece, and we will do our best to fulfill your request. Artwork is available in Acrylic Face-Mounting, Fine Art Prints, and Encaustic.
What sizes are available?

Acrylic Art is available in sizes from 24″, 36″, 48″, and 60″ wide. However, I am happy to customize dimensions to best meet your needs. Please contact me to discuss your specific size needs, and I will try my best to meet your needs.

Fine Art Prints are only available in two sizes, both 24″ wide, and 36″ wide. This is because larger prints can become creased, and it is also much more difficult to frame larger sized prints. If you would like larger artwork, it is suggested that you purchase an Acrylic Art piece.

Is the art limited edition?
Yes, each piece in our collection is produced in a limited series, ensuring that your possession is as unique and rare as the art itself. Each piece is included with a certificate of authenticity which is signed and numbered by the artist. The edition size and availability are specified in the product description.
