Adventures in Bolivia

In 2016 I returned to Canada after living in Spain for a year. I intended to renew my visa and return to Spain immediately, but learned to my dismay that there was a waiting period in between visas, which would delay my return. I returned to my house on Manitoulin Island and spent the summer there, regrouping. One day, I came across a photo essay about the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. The images were so beautiful, so incredibly rare and stunning. In that moment, I felt a longing that I could go there and capture images of my own.

Sometimes dreams really do come true. My wish was granted: shortly after, I applied to work for an NGO, and was assigned a position in La Paz, Bolivia, where I lived for six months. La Paz has the closest major airport to the Bolivian salt flats, and has the same altitude as Lhasa; the highest living altitude on Earth. It took me months to adjust to the attitude, but the timing was fortunate. A few months after my arrival I went to the salt flats of Uyuni where I was able to capture the images in this collection. Each image has a story of its own, which is detailed in the individual product pages. I loved being in the Salar de Uyuni, it was quiet and mysterious at night, and during the day, the colours were surreal and dreamlike. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and I worked hard and maintained focus to capture the beauty of this place.
